Is Eckhart Tolle Right? Can Life Flow With Ease?

Posted by Srana25 in Philosophy

Can you really create the life that you want? Furthermore, can you create it in an easy and relaxed way, unfolding gracefully? Is it possible to offer no resistance to life, to be in a state of elegance, effortlessness, and buoyancy while still getting what you really want? Can you move beyond being dependent on things being a certain way, good or ill, and gently move toward the life that makes you feel content, safe, and successful?

I think the best answer to this question can come from someone who has done it.

Here is what Eckhart Tolle, in The Power Of Now, says about experiencing a life that is worth living, where there is enough joy and freedom in each day to express your unique and authentic self:

“It seems almost paradoxical, yet when your inner dependency on form is gone, the general conditions of your life, the outer forms, tend to improve greatly. Things, people, or conditions that you thought you needed for happiness now come to you with no effort or struggle on your part, and you are free to enjoy and appreciate them–while they last.
All those things, of course, will still pass away, cycles will come and go, but with dependency gone there is no fear of loss anymore. Life flows with ease. The happiness that is derived from some secondary source is never very deep. It is only a pale reflection of the joy of Being, the vibrant peace that you find within as you enter the state of nonresistance.”

Yes, life can be wonderful, if you let it. And that is the trick: letting it be the way it is. In that space of allowing, new opportunities that you had not dreamed of come your way, and a new and splendid life comes to you of its own accord.

How does this happen? When you stop pushing, forcing, and trying to make things go a certain way; when you stop beating yourself up; when you stop berating the world for its obvious shortcomings; and when you stop using other people to be part of your internal script, then life itself begins to unfold the way that is best for you.

Your resistance to life is the cause of all your suffering. This resistance is expressed though struggle. This struggle, in turn, becomes increasingly more complex, exhausting you, and the harder you try to figure things out, the more confused you get.

We aren’t talking about becoming a sluggard, or not thinking, or not acting. We’re talking about creating sufficient inner mental quiet to observe what is actually happening so that you can effortlessly act intelligently in any situation. Our tension creates confusion, which then creates unintelligent living.

Allowing your life to flow with ease, then, is not about abandoning your goals and drifting or hoping something better shows up soon. Instead, it is about deciding what is best for you and allowing it to unfold in a very natural way, without coercion, second-guessing, or getting in your own way.
Once you lower your resistance to events, your mind becomes sharper and your energy is more expansive. All sorts of wonderful things then happen. Some of them are quite logical and make perfect sense. Others border on the mystical. Serendipidity and synchronicity start to show up more often.

Another way of describing this entire process is learning how to dance. Instead of grimly marching from one event to another, believing you are making some small progress and feeling unbelievably frustrated in the process, dance with life as it unfolds for you. Set your intention, release it, do what comes to mind as the best course of action, but stay mindful, stay open, and allow grace, ease, and lightness to inform your experiences.

Living Without Your Anger

Posted by Powerkeys in Philosophy

Up until several years ago, I was a champion ‘angry person’, in that just about everything in my life made me angry. If someone was unkind, or thoughtless, or selfish, or anything I didn’t like, I got angry. And not just upset, but all-out, smoke rolling out of my ears, ANGRY!

But the principles that I was learning led me to realize that every time I got angry, whether I expressed it or not, I was directing spiritual power to create future experiences that would mimic or resonate with that anger. I knew that I had a problem to deal with.

I understand where the philosophy of ‘living with your anger’ comes from, as well as the philosophy of express it to get rid of it. But at least in my case, everything I expressed got easier to express, and it just grew and grew. I had to eliminate it completely.

And here’s the major thing that helped with that. Anger is the feeling that things, situations, and people should be something they are not. Anger is judgment. If you take away the judgment, you eliminate the source of the anger. Actually, this is one lesson learned from the Buddhists. If you can eliminate your ‘attachment’ to the world and conditions, you can reach ‘enlightenment’.

I don’t get angry anymore. Frustrated sometimes, but I remind myself that the world is as it is, and I won’t help anything by getting angry, upset, or frustrated.

The transformation in me was like the transformation of a lifelong smoker who got scared out of the habit (yes, anger is a habit) by the reality of the disease (cancer in the case of the smoker). There’s a simple truth; your actions (and thoughts and feelings) today will create your reality tomorrow.

The transformation wasn’t easy, but it did happen. I had to constantly remind myself that everything I thought and felt was directing Power to create my future. I had to ask myself for every little thing (whether anger was involved or not - to develop the habit) “What kind of future do you want to create?”

Eventually, the anger habit was broken, and a new habit took its place. Another thing that really helped with this was long periods of focusing on the opposite of anger, happiness. Every day for about 6-8 weeks, I sat down to 2 or 3 sessions of 30-60 minutes each and did nothing but focus on love, happiness, harmony, and such. I knew that I had to get used to something other than anger, so I trained my mind and emotions to express something else. Guess what, it worked.

But what was even better, was that it did a lot more for me than simply giving me control over my anger. All of that time focusing on love, happiness, and harmony had directed Power to create some wonderful experiences in my life.

For the first time ever, everything around me seemed to go right. Every person I talked to seemed like they enjoyed my company and wanted to help me in the issues I was dealing with at the time. I had created so much ‘good luck’ in the process of focusing on happiness and love that I started wondering what was wrong.

And guess what that did? Yep, things started to go wrong again. But I quickly realized what was happening and started keeping my focus on what was right, and what I wanted to be right. I know now, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that my thoughts and feelings control my reality. And that any habit, even anger, can be conquered.

Now, every morning after I get out of bed, I spend about 20 minutes centering myself and finding the joy and happiness within. People tell me that I have incredible patience. My response is usually, “What good would it do for me to get upset?”

Sex Life Is Abominable

Posted by Vgevge in Philosophy

Sex is the driving mechanism of modern society. Godless life induces people into lustiness long after the high of youth has subsided, causing them to stay emotionally immature throughout their lives. Forgetting the eternal relationship with the supreme personality of godhead, lord Sri Krsna, they absorb media propaganda and remain perpetually indulgent in lust, having no knowledge of the necessity to resist the itch of this basal sexual urge.

Rampant sensual titillation however, increasingly dulls the spirit and causes deprivation of the real happiness. In adolescence, when the senses appear to have unlimited power to invoke delights, happiness through sense enjoyment seems not only to be a distinct possibility, but also the very purpose of life. Attempts for sexual enjoyment increasingly result in emptiness and frustration. Still, most people fail to recognize the limits and temporary nature of sexual enjoyment. Due to their misdirected education, they think that their lack of satisfaction with sex is only due to something wrong in their approach to it. They thereby end up on a psychologist’s couch or read several hundred books on ‘improved’ sex life. However, the harder they hanker for pleasure, the more certainly it eludes them. In this furious attempt to force their bodies into giving them the happiness, which they regard as a natural birthright, they methodically indulge into pornography, varieties of perversity, and ultimately violence.

There is really nothing special about sex. It is not wonderful, it is not noble, it is not romantic - it is just a bodily function, a response to raw gut feeling. If you think about it soberly, the whole prospect of sex seems rather silly. Still, everybody is doing it. The president of America is doing it, the bums on the street are doing it, the cats and dogs are doing it. Only a few great souls are attempting to conquer over it. Intelligently restraining from animal propensity and redirecting one’s energy towards God consciousnesses is the very purpose of the human form of life.

Actual civilization teaches its members to subjugate their sexual desires for higher, spiritual purposes. Modern civilization exploits people’s sexual cravings, makes a business out of it, and sends people to hellish planets by the millions life after life. Sex should be indulged in only for procreation. There is no fun in sex. It is painful and disgraceful process of so called enjoyment.

Aware of the challenges involved in providing this knowledge to the fallen conditioned souls, the Vaisnavas are begging the supreme lord to provide some intelligence to these people. If only people could understand this simple fact: We are all eternal servants of Krishna. Our sexual desire is simply a perverted reflection of our heart’s deepest desire to love Krishna. If we just knew this we could all be eternally happy. But in the darkness of the modern age it is very difficult to convince anyone that there is anything wrong with sex at all. The followers of Srila Prabhupada have a great responsibility to somehow or other deliver this ultimate knowledge to the people of the world.

When Things Aren’t Going Well, Don’t Blame ‘The Secret’

Posted by Pathar1 in Philosophy

When your desires aren’t manifesting, even though you feel that you’re doing all the right things, is your first impulse to conclude that The Secret is a lie and that the Law of Attraction doesn’t work - or only works selectively?

When things aren’t going well, it’s easy to blame The Secret. If The Secret is to blame, you don’t have to take responsibility for what’s happening in your life. However, if you really understand how the Law of Attraction works, you wouldn’t make this conclusion. Instead, you would re-examine your thoughts, feelings and actions to discover where your internal breakdown is.

Recently, I had a bad month where nothing seemed to go right. Many unexpected expenses showed up and my business receivables slowed down. I had relationship conflicts on a daily basis. I wasn’t sleeping well or eating healthy and I began to wonder if I could pull myself out of the hole I was in.

Because I understand how the Law of Attraction works, and that my thoughts, feelings and actions were creating my current state of affairs, I decided to step back from my misery and apply the principles of change. When I took an honest look at why my life wasn’t going well, I admitted to myself that I had been allowing negative thoughts to override the positive ones, that I was allowing my feelings to reside on a lower scale and that my actions were not supporting my desires.

At that moment, I began making conscious choices to redirect my thoughts, feelings and actions in a more positive direction. And things rapidly turned around!
When things aren’t going well for you, you can troubleshoot why by answering these questions:

* Are you monitoring your thoughts and consciously and continually thinking positively?
* Are you really feeling the feelings that support your desires, such as joy and love? (Faking these feelings doesn’t work.)
* Are you taking action toward your desires? (Lack of action equals lack of intention.)
* Are you too attached to the outcome of your desires? (Attachment creates a negative pull that can delay manifestation.)
* Are you being too specific in your request? (Specificity sets limits. ‘This or something better’ is a good qualifier to add to all of your intentions.)
* Do you have lingering doubts about the validity of the Law of Attraction? (Doubt is the fastest way to delay the manifestation of your desires.)

If you answer these questions with brutal honesty, you can begin to understand where you have created blocks to manifesting your heart’s desires. Patterns of negative, desire-sabotaging thinking might emerge. You might discover that your actions are not moving you toward your goals. Or you may realize that your thoughts are positive but you aren’t feeling the emotions that reinforce those thoughts.

When things aren’t going well, don’t blame The Secret. Instead, take responsibility for your life and turn things around! The Law of Attraction works all the time, every time. If you are not experiencing the life you truly want to live, you have the key to change at your fingertips. Align your thoughts, feelings and actions with the life you want to experience and let the Law of Attraction deliver it.

Can Transformational Leadership Play A Part In Solving The Human Crisis?

Posted by Rchrdcox in Philosophy

You may have noticed the world is having some challenges with us humans at the moment. She is getting a bit hot under the collar, and probably wouldn’t think too much about wiping us off her face, like she did with the dinosaurs. Considering that the dinosaurs lived for hundreds of thousands of years, and some still live today, I would consider them pretty adaptable. Humans seem to be having some big challenges with changing these days, and yet we have the arrogance to mock the dinosaurs.

So what is it going to take for human beings to start working together on a global level, when we have such deep challenges working together in our own lives? Let alone that, but even with ourselves we have deep issues that we find hard to address, let alone speak about. We hide from the truth like it will kill us, and miss the opportunity to free ourselves and others in the process. Yes, some part of us may die (our ego), but then again, was it not what was causing the problem anyway?

Our current global, business, political and social leaders are starting to get the message, and there is movement to a greater awakening to the seriousness of our current situation. But is it going to work? Are we addressing the core issues, or have we missed something in our attempt to fix the situation? Are we missing an enormous opportunity to transform what it means to be human? A chance to see into the future for 1000’s of years, and see our species make a powerful contribution to the way life evolves?

We live in a time that is fundamentally different from any other that humanity has encountered before. We are more technologically advanced that we have ever been, and at the same time we have almost completely lost our ancient, sacred, natural wisdom that has guided our ancestors in living in harmony on this planet.

We have become arrogant in our ways of taking from the world around us, with little regard for the impacts that we have on others, sometimes half way around the world. As an example, in past generations, if a local group polluted a river, then the whole group suffered as a result. Today if a industrial process pollutes a river, the people around suffer, but not the ones that are doing the damage.

Our purchasing decisions that bring us our fast, convenient, packaged food, affect the conditions of life and living systems around the globe, yet we cannot see it. What will it take for us to wake up? What will it take for us to start leading ourselves and others in a way that has the potential to transform the way we are behaving?

Is Transformational Leadership something that will contribute to the evolution of humankind? If it is, how can we get it out there more effectively? How can we get it into the hearts and minds of the people around us? How can we live the principles and ideals that stand for transformation and leadership in our world, be it on a micro or macro level?

I don’t believe that it is the only solution, but I do believe that if we started treating and leading each other the way Transformational Leadership suggests, it could make a significant impact on the way we create our future.

How To Be Happy Now

Posted by LeeCeleste in Philosophy

The Now is this moment and only this moment. Because Now it’s this one. And Now this one. That first ‘Now’ at the beginning of this paragraph and all subsequent ones since have already become the past. And the next time the big 3-letter ‘N’-word is mentioned here (you know the one we mean), it will be a future Now - there it is. Until Now.

Why all this silliness focused on the present moment? Because in truth, Now, or the present moment, is the only moment there ever really is. Why is understanding that so important to our happiness? Because all of our unhappiness, and every other negative thought and emotion associated with it, exists in the nonexistent past or future.

The present moment is timeless, eternal. And in it, if you are really in it, to be unhappy is impossible. Unfortunately, most of the time we think we’re in the present moment, we’re really in our heads, thinking about it, judging it, fretting about the past or worrying about the future. But in this inexorable moment Now, where the past is behind us and the future has yet to be, there is none of that (or at least there need not be).

There’s just the breeze, or lack thereof. The sun, or clouds. People and animals scurrying about, or lying still. Our thoughts and feelings on those circumstances are judgments, but happiness is not a judgment. It is an inward state of being, independent of circumstances, thoughts, feelings, and judgments.

Try for a moment, just being in the Now. It’s not so esoteric as it may seem. All it means is to still your constantly jabbering mind for a moment to let the still and silent observer deep inside you observe this moment.

Observe the breeze, or lack thereof. Observe the sun, or clouds. Observe the people and animals scurrying about or lying still. And especially observe those thoughts, feelings, and judgments about those things: about this exercise, even. And recognize that none of those thoughts and feelings and judgments are YOU. You are the still and silent observer watching and listening to it all. Try as hard as you can to experience that state for just a moment and then ask yourself if it was even possible for unhappiness to wheedle its way in there somehow.

The still and silent observer that is the real You is at peace, untroubled by errors of the past and hopes for the future. Circumstances don’t make us happy or unhappy. That’s why whenever we do manage to get what we thought we needed to be happy, we suddenly find something else to fix on, to hinge our continued happiness or unhappiness upon, something else that we must have or change in order to maintain this happiness and stave off future unhappiness.

Resistance to being fully present to the experience of this moment as it is and nothing but is what fosters unhappiness. Acceptance of this moment, embracing Now as it is, free of and untrammeled by the past and future, is where true and unshatterable happiness lies.
