Positive Thinking: Your 7 Step Action Plan

Posted by Jjarrett in Philosophy

Maybe when you think of positive thinking, you think about the Pollyanna kind of positive thinking where you put a positive spin on everything, regardless of the situation and no matter how bad it is.

That’s not the kind of positive thinking I’m talking about. Positive thinking, as defined by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, is more about a change of attitude. It’s about taking your situation and looking for the “seed” of change that can allow you to turn the situation around.

I’m sure you have a lot of dreams, ideas, and goals for your life. We all have things we want to change and want to achieve. Your first step here should be a change of attitude. With a change of attitude, then you need to translate your goals into something quantifiable. A goal is no good unless it’s something definite. Then, it’s time to take action.

Now, if you want to change your attitude, you’ll need to change the way you think. Below are seven tips you can use to change the way you think and find those “seeds” of solution in your life. Positive thinking can help you see solutions you might otherwise not have considered.

1. Stop talking about your problems, dreams, and goals. Write them down. Look for the seed of change within your problem and see if you can use this to solve your problem. You need to believe that you can change. You need to believe that you can grow and become better.

2. Commit yourself to thinking about the life you actually want. Can you visualize in detail your new life? The more clearly you can see exactly what you want, the easier it will be to visualize the steps you need to take to achieve what you want. Again, this is about belief.

This should include thinking about your life from different perspectives. You may want to change your financial situation, but what about your health, your relationships, your spiritual life? You really need to consider these things too when visualizing your ideal life.

Norman Vincent Peale always said, “Believe, achieve, receive.” It’s really that simple.

3. Remember that you will only be in this particular moment in time one time. You will never have this moment again because each moment in your life is different. Savor each moment. Get the most out of each moment of your life.

It’s been said that “life is too short.” It really is. Get a grip on your time and learn how to manage it effectively. Don’t waste your time on thoughts that will diminish your opportunity to be everything you want to be. What I mean by this is don’t waste your time dwelling on anger, hatred, revenge, or the past. These things only hold you back, and it’s unnecessary baggage you simply don’t need.

4. Exercise gratitude. Be grateful for every good thing in your life. The truth is, if you dwell on negative things, you will only attract more negative things. In my life I’ve noticed that when my thinking is negative, it shuts down the opportunity to find the solution to a problem. If you’re a writer, like me, then it can certainly effect your ability to get new ideas, as well as write. Stay positive. You will certainly see a difference in what you can accomplish.

5. Don’t waste your time dwelling on the past. We can all do this Shoulda/Coulda/Woulda mode where we regret how we handled a situation or didn’t take action when we should have.

The problem here is that you can’t change the past. Occasionally you might be able to change the situation. More often than not though, it isn’t possible. Better to move on and quit beating yourself up. Live in the now because the now is all you have. Make it the best now you can.

6. Keep a sense of humor. It’s been estimated that about seven out of 10 American adults are angry about something. Anger, in the right situation is actually a positive emotion. It can help us see where we’re going wrong in our lives. It’s not anger that’s the problem; it’s how we deal with it.

Deal with your anger in a positive way. Solve the problem because anger will only turn to resentment if you don’t deal with it. In the long run, unresolved anger will only hold you back. Why not just deal with it and get rid of it?

7. Believe that you can change your life. Henry Ford once said, “If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.”

Positive belief is crucial. Otherwise, when you finally do get what you want in life, you won’t be happy with it. In fact, you won’t be happy at all. Get honest, get rid of your baggage, and live honestly. You can’t take the next step, which is action, if you’re not honest about why you want what you want. If you want to enjoy what you receive, and be happy, then you need to be honest about your reasons for wanting something.

Take that first step towards positive thinking. Change what you believe. Then it will become easier for you to effect lasting change in your life.

The Perfect Relationship: Using The Law Of Attraction To Find Love

Posted by LeeCeleste in Philosophy

In this article we apply the lessons of the Law of Attraction to partnership relationships or romantic relationships, though the insights discussed apply to all relationships of all kinds - friends, parent/child, etc.

The people we attract to ourselves in life match up vibrationally with some energy we’re projecting. Attracting the right kinds of matches into your life then requires first and foremost accepting responsibility for the people you do attract. And taking responsibility for the kinds of people who show up in your life entails taking responsibility for how - you show up - in your life, inside and out. Change your vibrations, change what (and who) they attract.

Love is an energy - one we foster from within. When we access that energy of love from within, we project its vibrations outside of us; in our actions and in our being, we come from a place of love. This invariably attracts that same energy of love into our lives, for example in the form of other people to love who are also loving us.

One of the problems people have in getting the love they want is that so much of what people call ‘love’ isn’t love at all. Often it’s attachment: to the other person, to the relationship looking the way you think it should look, or even an attachment to ‘drama’. Other times it’s fear: fear of loss, fear of not being worthy of love, or one we hear a lot, fear of being happy, which really just amounts to more fear of not being worthy of love and fear of loss.

Some sages say that people ‘crush’ love like a bird in the hand when you hold onto it too hard, and while the image may be apt we prefer to say that when you cling to love you detach from it. If that sounds like a paradox, you’re catching on. Clinging to love out of attachment and fear disengages you from the love itself and grips you to your attachment and fear. As does clinging to your ideas of what love should look like when and if it ever does come.

Love is an energy. It cannot be gripped any more than you can grip light; you can only be bathed in it, or shut yourself away in the dark. But the light is there nonetheless, and right outside the door. Love flows, and to have the relationship of your fondest desires, let the love flow through you and from within you.

Rather than focusing on fixing the problems in your relationship (or your utter lack of one), engage in the flow of love and watch the problems (or lack) dissolve. Change the circumstances, situations, and conditions you find yourself in by allowing yourself to feel here and now the love you aim to feel for the new circumstances, situations, and conditions.

The perfect relationship with another person comes from nurturing a perfect relationship with yourself; in other words: loving yourself fully and unconditionally as you are, and appreciating yourself fully for all the love you have inside to give.

Reading The Signs Of The Times

Posted by J_hardcastle89 in Philosophy

Several decades ago, Mohandas K. Gandhi warned against what he called the seven social sins: politics without principle, wealth without work, commerce without morality, pleasure without conscience, education without character, science without humanity, and worship without sacrifice.

Gandhi’s social sins point to the crucial relationship between our ethics and our public life. That relationship has proven in the 21st Century to be the main subject in scholarly debates and the primary focus of constant questioning regarding the future course of human interaction, in relation to the latest technological advancements. In the vast global marketplace, people have to redefine themselves according to their needs and classify their wants/desires along a streamline of corporate offers. Incorporating ethos, dignity and self-awareness in this new technological era has become more than a challenge for today’s consumers. At the same time, corporate actors begin to steadily realize that their survival depends heavily on recognizing this battlefield and to act proactively so as to come up with innovative flexible channels to service their targets. Redefining these new competent and knowledge markets has become for firms a must that needs to be carefully planned before attempting to indulge consumer minds.

According to the business strategists, market analysis requires a thorough understanding of the organization’s own capabilities, the capabilities of current and future competitors, the consumption patterns of potential customers, and the economic, physical, and technological environment in which these elements will interact. Having in mind that the organization’s objective is to provide superior customer value, the firm must know how consumers determine value, its own and its competitors’ capabilities with respect to customer value creation, and the relevant economic, physical, regulatory, and technological environments. Firms have to know all the elements before attempting to target any market.

But defining a market is not a definite and unchangeable decision. As an example, the Coca-Cola Company marketers initially viewed the U.S. cola soft drink market as homogeneous, thus offered one flavor and communicated one message. Today, Coca-Cola has changed its view of the market it wishes to target and has expanded its product line to include new flavors, with varying caffeine and sugar content, while it uses different communication strategies for each market segment. But even if it is easy to comprehend how production or consumption patterns have changed over the years due to market dynamics, how have the distribution channels been affected? How have markets altered the circulation models used by firms to reach them?

In today’s information-based global economy of interconnected networks, sellers have to come up with innovative ideas, simplify the processes and increase consumption patterns. The amazing outcome of the Internet as a distribution channel was its enormous diffusion from the old traditional markets to the new adaptive areas, as a necessary technological advancement, and received as manna from heaven. Today, rural on-line markers are capable of defining their virtual environment and differentiate between corporations’ offers. But judging from the psychological drawbacks, along with issues on safety and privacy, the new challenges that the multipurpose distribution channels face have to be addressed soon so as to better serve the global market.

All Things In Harmony: A Native American View Of Health And Illness

Posted by Aabbette in Philosophy

The view of health by Native Americans is both all encompassing and thoughtful. Traditional medicine can play a more stoic and relentlessly lend to the scientific approach, but Native Americans have a more holistic outlook.

Health is viewed as a balance or harmony of mind and body. The goal is to be in harmony with all things, which means first being in harmony with oneself. Harmony is thought to neutralize problems and help one’s life to become beautiful. Good health makes it easier for all people to do their part in the universe, to serve others, and to fulfill their personal life visions.

Life is considered in all of its dualities: winter/summer, cold/hot, day/night, mind/body, spiritual/physical, work/play, and so on. Native people believe that the two sides of everything deserve equal attention and that both should be nourished with love. A healthy person who is walking in balance is energized and alert, and even in the presence of disease will still feel alive and fulfilled.

Traditionally, Native American people lived long, happy, healthy, and balanced lives. They did everything to respect and honor Mother Earth and the Great Spirit. They ate wholesome food and considered all food to be blessed as a gift of life from the Creator. They got up with the sun and went to bed with the moon. Exercise was a natural part of their lives, integrated into daily activities. These good health habits, a sense of joy, and a purpose in life are key factors for living into old age.

Illness occurs when balance is disrupted. It is believed that most illness begins in the head and that people must get rid of ideas that predispose illness. If the mind is negative, the body will be drained, making it more vulnerable. When people open up to the universe, learn what is good for them, and find ways to be happier, they can begin to work toward a longer and healthier life. Many ancient people had ways to get rid of this negativity. The Mayan people of Mexico would stand in a stream of flowing water and talk out all their angers, fears, sorrows, or troubles over the water. The moving water would take all the emotions they poured out of themselves into the current and away from them.

Role of Medicine Women and Men

Although they are the primary care providers in many places, the responsibilities of medicine women and men go beyond healing illness. They also evaluate advice and treatment given by other health care practitioners. They often have a strong influence on the acceptance or rejection of the treatment plans from conventional health care providers. They may also function as tribal social mediators, dispensing traditional wisdom and suggesting action. Medicine people reaffirm and strengthen tribal identity through the recounting of myth and song. They have an extensive knowledge of their communities and of family relationships and interaction. They are the formulators and teachers of the old religion and creators of the new. Medicine people are figures of authority and awe as instruments of the Creator.

In conclusion, keeping all things in balance and retrospect is a simple foundation and simple approach to maintaining good health and a healthy life.
