Wicca Supplies: The What And The Where

Posted by Rariadne in Metaphysical

In Wiccan practice quite a large variety of bits ‘n pieces are needed. When setting out on the Wiccan path, the list may seem quite daunting - and expensive. But the good news is that if your budget cannot stretch that far, much of what is needed can either be self-made or grown. Compiling a list of the bare necessities is probably a very good start. To make it easier, I divided the list into two parts. The first part is non-consumables and the second part is consumables:

The Basic List

Non-consumables

* Altar
* Candleholders
* Athame
* Wand
* Cup
* Incense holder
* Bowl
* Pentagram
* Altar Cloth
* Clear quartz crystal

Consumables

* White candles
* Lavender Incense
* Dried Lavender
* Sea Salt

As you progress along your path, you may feel the need to add to this list. The list can become very long and costly if you don’t keep an eye on yourself. It is probably a good idea to take a sanity check before adding to the list, by asking yourself “What do I need it for?” and if the answer is yes, “How often will I use it?”. To help you, I compiled a list of intermediate supplies. As is the case with the basic list, you can make a lot of it yourself if need be:

The Intermediate List

Non-consumables

* Mortar and Pestle
* More crystals
* Plate
* Ritual jeweler
* Ritual Robe
* Cape with Hood
* Cutting board and knife

* Small gas- or paraffin burner
* Fire-proof non-metallic container

Sources of Wiccan Supplies

You will effectively have three sources to choose from when seeking Wiccan supplies. These are You, Occult supply stores and the Internet.

You

There is a lot to be said in support of creating and making your own “non-consumables”. Over and above the price, there is the very relevant issue of personal power. The elements of personal power basically revolve around Charging and Imprint:

Charging - When you decide to make your own wand, for example, you plant the seed of intent. Next, you may research the different types of wood that can be used. When you decide which wood you want to use, you will do so with a specific purpose in mind. Let’s say you decided on Oak. At the store, you will select a length of Oak wood. You are likely to choose the piece of Oak wood that resonates best with you - quite unknowingly of course. When you get back home, you will start making the wand. While you are carving away, you will probably daydream on what it will look like in your hand during ritual In the process, you are charging the wand with its intended purpose.

Imprint - By handling the raw wood and by transforming it into a magickal tool, you leave your personal imprint on the wood and the wood its personal imprint on you

That is why a self-made tool could well turn out to be far more effective and much more powerful than one purchased at a store or on the internet.
